January has the festival of Sant Antonio D'Abate this is a street festival in many towns consisting of your typical fair with a night time Bonfire in the Square or some open space and lots of food drink and dancing! Some good locations are Bortigali or Birori or Dualchi all in Nuoro province,

February Normally, six weeks prior to Easter, Carnevale occurs. In this you will see Parades and street festivals similar to Mardi Gras This happens all over Italy and should not be missed. The biggest day is Shrove Tuesday and that is a big time fun fest!

There are also traditional horse races, in costume, in various towns Oristano and Pattada have great races through the streets of the town

March is a time of thought and reflection about the Up coming Easter celebrations so not a whole lot of festivals here.

April Has the festival of Saint George; (of the Dragon slaying type) you will find some really neat candlelight processions related to this in Tergu, near Castelsardo and in Castelsardo itself. You will also find many re enactments of the Passion play in Sassari Alghero and Ittireddu around this time.

May has the Festival of Saint Efisio in Cagliari, San Simplicio in Olbia, and San Guista in the town of SanGuista and The Calavacata of Sassari. These events are HUGE. Full Parades of Traditional Costumed people from all over the Island. Well worth the detour!

June has the festival of Saint John the Baptist; this one has roots that go back to pre-christian time as a Solstice festival. You can see one in Fonni

July has some really good stuff in it If you like horse races through the streets, this month if for you! In Pozzomaggiore, and Fonni and Sedilo there are famous festivals including an Ardia or horse race with shows of equestrian skills.

August has the festival of Saint Mary of the Sea in Bosa, a well preserved medieval town on the west coast of Sardinia below Alghero. They have an effigy they parade through town and then to sea. Also in this month is the Feast of the Assumption, celebrating Mary’s ascension into Heaven. The best traditional show is in Orgosolo down by Nuoro. If you like pre-Christian based festivals, there is a festival Known as he Candilieri in Sassari which was once a show of the local government’s ability to get and keep seed for next years planting. There is a fertility symbol of a huge upright shaft carried by groups of men that has a spray of wheat and barley coming out the tip of the shaft. These things are emblazoned with the coats of arms of the medieval guilds that provided the workers for harvest and planting. A similar festival is held in Nulvi at the same time frame.

August has also got Ferrogosto, on the 15th of August. This signals the middle of the month of traditional vacation time. You will see fireworks and massive celebrations.

September has some neat functions happening in Ancient field churches in Cabras as well as organized barefoot races through the countryside. Then in Tempio, The festa di Saint Isodoro has decorated Oxcarts being driven through the streets with the obligatory Food and drinks. A festival in Bortigali down by Nuoro has an 8 Km costumed race with a saint's effigy through the countryside. At the end of the race they have singing at an old field church.

October has several very local festivals that date back to Harvest festivals. You can see these at Ala di Sardi, Serrenti and Gesico

The Months of November and December are not too big with festivals, unless you like to roast Chestnuts, check out Aritzo near Nuoro for a Festa di Castagne. Its great eating! You’ll also find there are many towns, especially in the center of the island, that celebrate the Festa di Saint Lucy. She lost her eyes because she would not renounce her faith and she could still see.
